A large LED video display is installed on the facade of the Arts Court Building. The eyes of a young girl appear on the screen and seem to be looking around at the environment. After 20 seconds, the eyes of an older man replace the girl’s and again seem to be peering down from the LED display. 20 seconds after that, a woman’s eyes appear. This cycle continues, always showing a new person’s eyes looking out at us.Inside the Arts Court Building, there is a small portal cut into a wall. There is a video monitor embedded inside the wall. This shows a real-time view of what is outside, from the point of view of the LED display. While looking into the monitor, the viewer’s eyes are video captured and displayed on the LED display outside. When no one is currently looking into the monitor, the entire viewing history of SPECTATOR is displayed one person at a time. The installation is made of all the people who have ever viewed it. SPECTATOR is a playful, living portrait of its community.
